Transition

Summer - The heat's been
kicking up in New York City this week and the market's been dropping
for the past six weeks. The adage of, "Sell in May and go away" has
worked beautifully this year. The S&P has dropped about 100 points
and the DOW has lost roughly 800 points in the past six weeks. Where
do we go now? I think there could be another 1-2 weeks of selling
before buyers start cherry picking the next leaders in the second
half of the year. As an aside, retail investors who bought into the
LNKD ipo are now all underwater if they held their shares. LNKD is
probably headed for its natural ipo price of $40 in fits and starts.
It was $122 a couple of weeks ago.
Autumn's on the Way
Autumn - The past couple of days in NYC have been breezy and temperatures are wavering within the 70˚ range. It seems too early for the summer to end but a quick glance at the calendar shows that we're at the end of August and September's just around the corner. Saw the movie "Salt" starring Angelina Jolie with Jana and her sister last night - good but predictable. Then there's the new George Clooney movie "The American" where he's an assassin or something. What is it with Hollywood stars wanting to portray killers extraordinaire? Must be a secret fetish.
Paper Disposal
Paper
Disposal
- A company that my family controls is closing an old warehouse
and we've been contemplating the best way to dispose of nearly 2
tons of old business invoices and receipts that have been
accumulated since 1990. We looked at incinerating them on one of
our properties but then found out that the use of incinerators on
private property within NYS is illegal. Something about waste
residue and smoke fouling up the air quality.
Then we thought about shredding the paper but that would take too
long and no one in our employ is willing to sit in front of a
shredder for hours on end. After contemplating different solutions
and strategies, we decided to compost all of the paper in metal
bins. We have red wrigglers that we already use for regular
composting and turning the paper into something that'll benefit
our fields and gardens is preferable to simply dumping it into a
landfill.
Bitch Slap
Bitch Slap - Movie starring
Julia Voth, Erin Cummings, and America Olivo
The term "Bitch Slap" is not reserved solely for slapping bitches.
In fact, a man may be bitch slapped with extreme prejudice. Bitch
slap merely refers to the style of the slap. When bitch slapping
someone, it must be done with a perfect combination of quickness,
sharpness, and "the look." The person doing the bitch slapping
must appear repulsed, angry, and full of contempt at the bitch
slappee. That last word was made up on the fly.
Twilight Movie
Twilight Movie - The one with
"Bella Swan" and "Edward Cullen"
The candy "Twizzlers" may be seen in two instances in the film.
The first instance is early in the movie when Bella's waiting to
"confront" Edward and Tyler throws a Twizzler at her. The second
instance is when the classmates are at "La Push" beach and Bella
hands Jacob a Twizzler when they're at the van.
Running Scared
Running Scared - The movie
with Paul Thomas
The movie is a modern day fairly tale with multiple references to
the stories from the Brothers Grimm. In the scene at the van with
the pedophiles/child-murderers, Edele calls Dez "Papa Bear" and
their home is a children's wonderland which disguises the horrors
within. In the bathroom scene when Oleg's on the phone with
Theresa, the name on the medicine bottle is "Edele Hansel." In the
playroom at the child-killers' apartment, two arcade machines may
be seen - "Road's Edge" which is an SNK Hyper Neo Geo 64 coin-op
and "Emergency Call Ambulance" from Sega. Joey's pictured as the
Big Bad Wolf in the ending credits which may allude to his
undercover status and disguise in plain sight.
